introduction to TV drama

1.It delivers a story and carries on with this story over a large period of time in different sections called episodes.

2.The Avengers (1961-1969) and Danger
Man (1962-1968) being notable examples. Euston Films, creators of
The Sweeney (1975-1978) and Minder (1979 – 1994),

3.Police Procedural (crime)-crime watch
Medical:-casualty
Period (costume)-downtown abbey
Science-fiction/fantasy-Doctor Who
family-Friday Night Lights
teen-Gossip Girl

4.it distinguishes the importance of characters where one character may be in a location opposed to the other character which allows the drama to develop over a long period of time.

5.Characters in drama have to develop and change to carry the plot. However in TV dramas characters are used now that conform to the societal changes and development to appease the audience such as the presence of more females in TV dramas due to the impact of feminism which attracts a larger audience.

6.Multi strand narrative is when a film is telling the story from several main characters perspectives who all have their own small story lines within the narratives. An example of this is the "one tree hill."

7.Employing a teaser at the beginning to hook and keep the audience watching.

8. Tododrov stated that equilibrium is when everything is in power and is balanced which links back to the beginning of a TV drama series and then the equilibrium is disrupted which could refer to the plot in a TV drama and then equilibrium is maintained again which links to the resolution of TV drama where its all sorted it out.

9.It`s distributor is the BBCI and its running time is usually 50 minutes. It is usually distributed to an audience through trailers and posters.

10.It may become more diverse and targeted toward niche groups. Online programme makers are starting to create more short form content, leading to drama serials that run for much less than 60 minutes and 30 minutes.

11. The TV drama i will be analysing is casualty. Casualty incorporates ethnic minority characters as the main characters to appease the modern audience. The setting is usually in the hospitals but it differs between two settings which is the hospital and the area where the accident takes place where the paramedic treats the patients which outlines the importance of the senior doctors who are at the hospital and the paramedics who rush to a different setting to threat the patient.

12.I think TV drama will become a tool used by society to represent and normalise developing social ideologies due to the incorporation of more characters that represent these changes in social ideologies . It will be less about creativity and more about appeasing the audience so they can gain more profit.
